The practice of Nyung-nay is a swift and powerful means to clear away obstacles to physical and mental well-being. It brings the practitioner to the essence of the supreme secret of Avalokiteshvara, the compassionate expression of all buddhas.

By taking the temporary eight precepts (avoiding killing, stealing, sex, lies, alcohol, high seats or beds, eating after noon, perfume, music and dance, jewelry, etc.), the causes for experiencing happiness in this and future lives and, ultimately, attaining enlightenment, are created.

By reciting the mantra of Avalokiteshvara and offering prostrations, every conceivable kind of negative action can be purified, and all conditions favorable for spiritual growth are reinforced.

The basics:
  • The retreat will be led by Lama Padma Yontan Gyatso
  • Since space is limited, you must pre-register by March 10. Once full, we will have a waitlist.
  • The retreat begins Saturday morning before dawn.  You must receive the vows to participate.
  • Plan on spending Friday night at the retreat site to ensure your presence at the vows early Saturday morning.
  • Sleeping will be dorm-style. Bring your own bedding.
  • A vegetarian meal will be offered Saturday noon. You may bring whatever you wish to supplement this meal, but NO meat, eggs, garlic, onion, or radish.
  • The practice text is from the Kusum Gongdü cycle revealed by Tromge Khakyod Wangpo, published by Padma Publishing. Notify us if you don't have this text.
  • If you have not received any Avalokiteshvara (Tib. Chenrezig) empowerment, contact us at amritagonpa@gmail.com and arrive Friday evening. Lama Padma will decide to give the empowerment based on participants who gather on Friday evening.
  • The fast ends at dawn Monday morning and the practice session should end before 7:30am.
